During this time they focus on a theme, an artist whose style they like and want to explore, and generally to enter the world of artistic creativity in a complete way. The Auburn series is so named because the painting session took place in Auburn, California.

In 2006, Jannebeth Röell and three friends (Patricia Lynch, Cheri Munske, and Donna Patterson) began a weekly trip to Sauvie Island to interpret its nature through the seasons of the year. Tuesdays, they got up before dawn, rain or shine, and drove together out to their chosen spot, arriving before sunrise. Season after season they brought their experiences to artistic expression, mostly in watercolor. Their field work was often recreated, transformed or refined in the studio afterwards.
